Restore meaning to employee’s work by mastering data

After the tax period, it is possible that some young employees would like to diversify their daily tasks by offering more consulting and support assignments to clients.

Employees like Rebecca Bibas Giaccone have chosen to take Le Wagon training courses to give their work meaning. She shares her experience and her vision of the profession.

What is your background and what did your additional training bring you?

I am a memoirist and chartered accountant. My dissertation deals with the possible work as an economic expert in an auditing company. I worked 7 years in an accounting firm as an associate and then as a project manager.

When I started my auditing studies, my goal was to advise my future clients, managers, on the management of their activities. In reality, however, my daily missions did not live up to my expectations, which partly explains my lack of fulfillment in my work. I couldn’t project myself anymore by training this way, I wanted to train differently.

This is the main reason I wanted to take a full stack web development course to learn coding and development.

My idea was to give my work meaning again by offering more services to the firm’s clients.

Life’s chances led me to be hired by MyUnisoft as a Product Owner (digital product manager) after my education. Currently, my job is to identify user needs and translate them into technical specifications for developers. Data is part of my work. I’m also the economics officer for the developers.

In your opinion, what does mastery of data bring to an employee in a company?

The company can leverage the skills of employees trained in data at various levels.

Propose new missions to clients thanks to industry analysis to help them position themselves in relation to the competition or their partners. This could, for example, also be analyzes of your own work. The aim is to guide the managing director in his daily decision-making.

Employees can also analyze practice data. The aim is to optimize practice management and, in particular, personnel management.

We have been noticing for some time that the traditional tasks of accounting expertise, of an accounting nature, are becoming increasingly automated thanks to the development of digital tools.

The machine can now do some of these time-consuming and unchallenging tasks with very little human intervention.

Instead of regretting the possible replacement of employees with artificial intelligence, I think it would be wiser to put this artificial intelligence at the service of humans (accountants, employees and customers)., in particular by using the data that companies already have. In this way, the law firm would continue to make itself indispensable in the management of clients’ activities by offering them more advice.

In my opinion, mastering the data is relevant because the consulting activity is based precisely on the analysis of all data.

The machine should not take over the core business of auditing, but rather be used as a tool to buy employees time to do more interesting and rewarding tasks.

Also, I think it would help make the profession more attractive to future employees by giving the profession a more modern and dynamic image.

What would you say to an accountant or employee who is hesitant to learn about data?

Currently, an accounting firm is a barometer of the business sector. He has access to a lot of data that is not yet used. However, the use of this data offers companies the opportunity to do their business differently and to present it to customers.

In the future, I think that taking stock will only be the first step and will be an end in itself for the customer. To really improve their mission, the employee can then offer them projections, competitive analysis, etc. This will make all the difference for the customer. The mere submission of a balance sheet no longer brings any real added value.

We often hear that digital jobs are the future, when in fact it is the present.

My interpretation of the situation is that training in data will now ensure the sustainability of the profession. This is an opportunity that accountants and employees must seize.

Especially since the training that Le Wagon gave me is particularly effective. At the end of my training as a full stack web developer, I was able to apply the knowledge I had learned immediately, I didn’t feel lost. I think the people who will follow the data training will make the same observation.

What do you wish for your future?

I’m thriving in my job right now, but I’d also like to complete my degree in accounting with the completion of my dissertation. With my dual role as an auditor/web developer, I could possibly open my own law firm in a few years’ time, specializing in advising on the use of data.
